Return to sender: Frankfurt Airport’s Lost & Found Office sends forgotten items back to their owners

Return to sender: Frankfurt Airport’s Lost & Found Office sends forgotten items back to their owners ( Every month, passengers leave behind hundreds of mobile phones, tablets, laptops and many other items.

It usually comes as a shock when passengers realize after their flight has departed that they’ve left something behind in the terminals, such as their computer, smartphone, or glasses. Forgetting or losing items actually happens quite often at airports, including Europe’s gateway to the world. About 20,000 items are turned in to Frankfurt Airport’s (FRA) Lost & Found Office every year. Happily, many items find their way back to their owners, in many cases without requiring passengers to fly halfway around the world to claim their items. To ensure this convenience, FRA’s Lost & Found Office has introduced a new service for shipping lost possessions to their owners’ homes.

The Frankfurt Airport Lost & Found Office stores everything that comes in, sorting it by date. Only food items are disposed of, since they could spoil. The storage facility is full of just about everything imaginable: watches, coats, shoes, purses, keys, books – even dentures and glass eyes occasionally turn up. Typically, passengers forget eyeglasses and electronic devices. All found items are registered in a computer system and stored for three months at the FRA Lost & Found Office. Anything not claimed during this time is sold via a public auction.

If you’re missing something, you can either submit an online query at under “Check-in & Baggage” or personally visit the FRA Lost & Found Office any day between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. The staff can check whether your lost item has been found anywhere in the airport and turned in. You can pick up your found item and pay the corresponding service charge directly at the airport, or you can have it conveniently delivered to your home – with the service and shipping costs billed.

Frankfurt Airport’s Lost & Found Office is yet another element of Fraport’s “Great to have you here!” service-quality program, developed by the airport manager to continuously enhance the passenger experience at Germany’s largest aviation hub. Recent examples include the Frankfurt Airport App 2.0 and free Wi-Fi in the terminals. You’ll find more information about Frankfurt Airport’s many services on the Services page ( ) of the FRA website and the social media channels on Twitter ( ), Facebook ( ), Youtube ( ), Pinterest ( ), and Instagram ( ).
