SOREFI Meeting Cyclo Tour riders discover Reunion Island

SOREFI Meeting Cyclo Tour riders discover Reunion Island (Forimmediaterelease.net) The more than 1,500 cyclists who responded to the call of SOREFI Meeting Cyclo Tour, which took place Sunday, May 3, 2015, did not know where they were headed! In total, four trials and routes awaited the cyclists with the main flagship race around Reunion Island offering a tough sporting challenge and other routes allowing the riders to explore the landscapes of the island.

With the main race covering a distance of about 230 kilometers, only 225 of the 1,500 lined up at the start for that race which took them around Reunion Island on a course whose main challenge was an elevation variance of some 2,000 meters.

This race, one of the longest in the entirety of France, was an opportunity to enjoy the diverse landscapes of Reunion Island, from St. Paul along the coast of the island, going in a clockwise direction. After crossing the lush scenery of the east coast, the riders found themselves at the heart of a barren landscape even more when reaching the lunar south of the island. At the right of Grand Brûlé, the Piton de la Fournaise showed its fiery glow on the top of its 2,631 meters of altitude, and to the left the stark contrast of the ultramarine blue of the Indian Ocean.

Advancing to the west coast, the basaltic environment then gave way to coconut palms and casuarina trees lining the other coral sand beaches of Reunion Island.

All the races took place on special lanes set aside for cycling. After Laurent Jalabert, who was the sponsor of SOREFI Meeting Cyclo Tour in 2014, it was Henri Sannier who this year was invited to the event. The presenter and the editor of All Sport on the national television channel France 3 biked the 40 kilometers and 14 kilometers of the event respectively.

The SOREFI Meeting Cyclo Tour is the biggest cycling event on Reunion Island, a paradise for athletes from all backgrounds and all corners. This event is supported by Reunion Island Tourism (IRT) and offers a real opportunity to allow young aspiring cyclists, particularly those from the Indian Ocean region, South Africa, and France, to discover the tourism attractions through cycling.
