“An Evening with Real Men” Co-Hosted by NBA Legend Jerry West
Spawned by a thought-provoking book entitled “Real Men Don’t Play!” by Bobby Glanton Smith (Manic Productions, LLC), a rapt audience assembled at the Clive Davis Theater in the Grammy Museum in Los Angeles and was treated to a fireside like chatfeaturing the legendary Jerry West, the Great Jim Brown and “The Face of Boxing,” Sam Watson.

An Evening with Real Men delved into the relevancy of men in the 21st Century and the daunting challenges society now faces as a result of the decline in men in positions of leadership in the homes across America.

The august panel included Jerry West (who taped his remarks because of a commitment in Chicago); NFL Hall of Famer/Hollywood Icon/Community Activist, Jim Brown, Sports&Entertainment Mogul Sam Watson (often referred to as “The Face of Boxing”) and Lieutenant Colonel (USAF, retired) Frederick Woods who traveled for the event from Washington, D.C. One of the highlights of the evening was the unveiling of “HERO” a fine art portrait of Jim Brown by Lynde Washington, former NFL player and fast rising star in the art world.

“I’ve been blessed to know some of the world’s greatest men and further blessed to chronicle their journey to manhood and beyond,” opined Glanton Smith. The event at the Grammy Museum was Co-Hosted by Kevin McDowell, Executive Vice President/Chief Administrative Officer of AEG Worldwide. Mr. McDowell is featured in the book “Real Men Don’t Play! “I wrote about Kevin because of his shining example of manhood and his amazing journey to professional accomplishment while being sensitive to the responsibility of giving back,” said Glanton-Smith.

“I’m blessed and honored to have participated in An Evening with Real Men,” said Lynde Washington, who first met Jim Brown when he was a rookie with the Baltimore Ravens in 2000. “One of the great highlights of my career as a fine artist is the opportunity to capture the essence of a man that has spent in his entire adult life being the rising tide that lifts all the boats,” said Washington.

An Evening with Real Men affirmed the ongoing accomplishments of real men and fueled Glanton Smith determination to continue illuminating the trails already blazed by men of substance. “The men like Jerry West, Jim Brown and Sam Watson unequivocally provide evidence that Marcus Garvey was right: “What Men Have Done, Men Can Do.” That is a mantra that I’ve dedicated my life to spreading to present of future generations through my writing,” proclaimed Glanton Smith.
