Mövenpick Resort & Spa El Gouna awarded Green Globe re-certification
The renowned Green Globe is one of the most recognized sustainability brands worldwide and is focused on maximizing operational efficiencies to minimize CO2 emissions while supporting host communities. It identifies key environmental indicators such as energy and water consumption, total waste production as well as community commitment, to determine the level of performance.
Only those companies that demonstrate operational practices that adhere to the highest environmental standards receive the much-coveted Green Globe Certification.
We are extremely proud to receive Green Globe certification once again,” said Osama Abaza, General Manager of Mövenpick Resort&Spa El Gouna. “It is a recognition of the continued efforts and the progressive and sustainable environmental operation policies that the resort has been pursuing over past years. At the same time, it provides motivation to carry on and strive for an even better performance in the future.”
The resort has a comprehensive Sustainability Management Plan with a particular focus on environmental and sociocultural areas. To reduce electrical consumption energy efficient lighting has been installed throughout the property and power saving switches deployed in all guest rooms, while all computers are turned off in back of house offices afterhours.
Effective waste minimization strategies have been implemented at the resort. All waste is sent to the Green Area run by Orascom, a waste management company. It is then sorted and segregated into recyclable and non-recyclable items. To date, a 93% waste diversion rate has been reported at the facility. Also, biodegradable amenities are placed in guest bathrooms, staff rooms, public restrooms and the fitness center. In addition, the resort’s purchasing policy prefers re-usable, returnable and recycled goods where available.
Mövenpick Resort&Spa El Gouna’s restaurants and kitchens source its ingredients from the city of Hurghada that is located within a 24 km radius from the resort. This means food items are not only purchased locally but also significant savings regarding transportation costs are made.
As part of its Corporate Social Responsibilities the resort actively engages guests in activities such as Earth Day and tree planting. Furthermore, the resort supports local charities and organizations such as Dolphin Watch through offering use of its facilities.
