World Tourism Forum presents solutions for peace and sustainable development in Oslo and Prague

( The Forum shares the experiences it has gathered in a collection of nearly 300 solutions for using tourism to foster peace and sustainable development throughout the world.

The results of the first three years of the World Tourism Forum for Peace and Sustainable Development's existence will be presented to the International Academy for Quality (IAQ) during the 51st European Organization for Quality Congress in Prague (Czech Republic) on May 22 and 23. Sergio Foguel, Chairman of the Tourism for Peace and Sustainable Development Foundation, the Forum's organizer, will give a presentation on the approximately 300 concrete cases on best practices from around the world that demonstrate how the transforming power of tourism can be used to generate peace and sustainable development, addressing economic, social, environmental and cultural aspects. According to the Foundation's Chairman, “This treasury of solutions is the Forum's greatest legacy." Between 2004 and 2006, the Forum held three annual summits that brought together nearly 11,000 people from over 100 countries. Tito Conti, President of IAQ and a Forum Board Member, will be taking part in the presentations.

The Forum was also on the agenda of the Global Ecotourism Conference 2007, held from May 14 to 16 in Oslo, Norway. Lelei LeLaulu, a Forum Board Member and President and CEO of Counterpart International, gave a presentation on the Forum's achievements during the closing ceremony of the world's most important international event on ecotourism.

A new on-line system is being developed to provide easy access to the storehouse of solutions produced on the basis of presentations given at the Forum's first three annual summits. The cases are being organized and classified by country of origin, theme(s), and approach, among other categories of interest to a wide range of target audiences. The system will also provide a portal for new experiences. Suggestions for new case studies will be evaluated for inclusion. Furthermore, the organization of this system will facilitate research and publications. The cases will be published on the Destinations website.
