Trinidad and Tobago talks business in America's capital

Trinidad and Tobago talks business in America's capital ( PORT-OF-SPAIN, Trinidad - Washington DC was the center of attention as the Trinidad and Tobago Convention Bureau North American road show rolled into America's capital on May 6th and played host to a strong group of sixty Meeting Planners and Heads of Associations at the Grand Hyatt Washington.

The Meetings, Incentive, Conference and Exhibition (MICE) industry has a great economic impact on the tourism of a destination. Convention attendees tend to stay longer and spend up to four times more than leisure travellers.

According to a recent study by PriceWater House Coopers the MICE industry contributes US $263 billion in annual spending to the United States (USA) economy. With the USA ranked as one of the top ten (10) nations hosting conventions, the roadshow provides an opportunity to strategically target, encourage dialogue and strengthen relations with meeting planners and Heads of Associations in this key source market.

Commenting on the road show, Keith Chin, Chief Executive Officer of the Trinidad and Tobago Tourism Development Company Limited who is part of the TDC's delegation participating in the road show opined, “The Tourism Development Company takes its mandate seriously and continues to explore ways to position Trinidad and Tobago as a preferred destination on a global stage.”

He further added, “This road show has allowed us to aggressively pursue our business tourism agenda in the USA which is our key source market for business and we look forward to building on the many leads generated."

Trinidad and Tobago was brought to life by a three minute video presentation which took the attendees on a virtual tour of the destination showcasing the world-class meeting facilities mingled with active nightlife, exquisite dining and magnificent historical attractions and festivals.

Speakers included Counsellor at the Embassy of Trinidad and Tobago in Washington Mr. Colin Connelly who delivered welcome remarks on behalf of His Excellency Neil Parsan, Ambassador to Trinidad and Tobago in Washington and Ms. Arveon Mills, Sales Manager, Trinidad and Tobago Convention Bureau.

Both strongly positioned Trinidad and Tobago as the place to do business in the Southern Caribbean citing the destination's thriving business and energy sectors, increasing airlift from regional and international hubs, advanced technology and telecommunications, international branded hotels and superior conference facilities as the driver to our global competitiveness.

The Trinidad and Tobago Convention Bureau (TTCB) acts as a liaison between meeting planners and local suppliers and offers a number of complimentary services. These services include assistance with conference bids, site inspections, destination information packages and tour proposals.
