WWII German Concentration Camp Survivor met Anne Frank in Prison, Subject of New Film
Salt Lake City, Utah – Anne Frank and her sister Margot died in the WWII German concentration camp known as Bergen Belsen in March 1945 just weeks before the English liberated the camp in April.
Hannah Pick-Goslar was likely one of the last people to talk with Anne Frank just before she died in the Bergen Belsen Concentration Camp. The two had been friends since childhood, and their story will now become a film. She was known to Anne Frank as Hanneli, so the title of the film is “Hanneli and Anne.”

Anne Frank and her sister, Margot, died of typhus in March 1945, along with thousands of other prisoners in a typhus epidemic. There were no gas chambers in the camp, but it is estimated that as many as 60,000 people died of starvation, overwork, disease, brutality, and medical experimentation.
The Frank sisters are among the thousands buried in mass graves at the camp located between the villages of Bergen and Belsen in Germany. This was the first concentration camp to be liberated, and news of what happened there shocked the world. The English buried over 10,000 bodies when they arrived, and had to use bulldozers because of the enormity of the crisis.
The camp was burned to the ground to destroy the disease infested buildings and grounds, and survivors were moved to another camp where they could be cared for.
Today there is only the mass grave and a visitor’s center museum. The site is considered to be the largest Jewish cemetery in Western Europe.
The filmmakers obtained permission from the Anne Frank Fonds (charitable foundation) in Basel Switzerland to use text from the famous diary of Anne Frank in the film project.
“Our goal is to make the film in honor of Hannah and her courage. We will enter it into film festivals and hope to get this film into schools, so that students all over the world will know Hannah's story,” explained Sally Meyers, writer, director, and producer.
