Old Town Editions Announces Its Involvement With Historic Works
Old Town Editions is excited to announce its important and historic works completed in April. These works include a painting commissioned by George Washington and photographs taken by the Hubble Telescope.
Old Town Editions recently worked on painting commissioned by George Washington in 1757 for Mount Vernon. As well, Old Town Editions worked on 23 Bull Run Battle Maps for Manassas National Battlefield Park. These works detailed important moments in both the history of the United States and that of George Washington, one of the United States’ most important and noted founding fathers.
George Washington was born February 22, 1732 and died December 14, 1799. During his lifetime, George Washington served as the first President of the United States and was a general for the Continental Army. As well, he served in the French and Indian War and helped establish the precedent for modern day presidents.
In addition to being able to work on historic paintings, Old Town Additions also printed an unpublished Hubble Telescope Image that was unveiled only recently. Old Town Additions was contacted by Chuck Hymen, a representative of the prestigious Cosmos Club in Washington DC to reproduce the Hubble image.
Mr. Hymen informed Old Town Additions that he would be receiving and sending an image from the Hubble Group to Old Town Additions but the image would have to remain unpublished and unshared until otherwise specified.
The Hubble image was part of a larger showing of prints of images captured by the Hubble that have been on display for the last month at the Cosmos Club. The image’s production was completed so that it can be displayed at the show. The day of the release of this image was on April 23rd, 2015. Old Town Additions is ecstatic to have been a part of the commemoration of the 25th anniversary of such important an imaging marvel as the Hubble Telescope.
The work is titled Celestial Fireworks and it features an image of the giant cluster of around 3,000 stars known in the scientific community as Westerlund 2. The Hubble Telescope was launched in low orbit on April 24, 1990 and it remains in orbit today. The telescope observes in near ultraviolet, visible, and near infrared. The results are some of the most detailed and visible light images ever captured.
