Seychelles says thank you to the people of Seychelles for the success of 2015 edition of the Carnaval International de Victoria

Seychelles says thank you to the people of Seychelles for the success of 2015 edition of the Carnaval International de Victoria (Forimmediaterelease.net) “Without the people of Seychelles, there will not be a carnival.” This statement was echoed by Alain St.Ange, the island's Minister for Tourism and Culture, during the official closing ceremony of the fifth edition of the Seychelles Carnaval International de Victoria. The Minister spoke about the success of the 2015 edition of the carnival in Seychelles that has been called the “Carnival of Carnivals.”

Closing the carnival at Freedom Square in the presence of the President of the Republic of Seychelles, James Michel, Minister St.Ange explained the last-minute diversion of the carnival float parade on Saturday and the VIP seating arrangement.

He said the alternative arrangements for the VIP sitting were not in any way linked to any of the rumors with regards to security issues.

Minister St.Ange outlined the re-organization “was due to the fact the facilities in the stadium car park would not be sufficient to accommodate the sizeable Ghana contingent accompanying the Ashanti King.” Talking about the rumors with regards to security issues, the Minister said: “Nobody can destabilize the existing peace and security in the Seychelles. Each and every Seychellois knows, and each and every Seychellois realizes the importance for Seychelles to safeguard its reputation as being a safe tourism destination. Seychelles is one of the safest destinations in this troubled world, and this Seychelles will remain,” the Minister said.

Minister St.Ange also took the opportunity to thank the large number of international press who had traveled to Seychelles to cover the carnival.

“Thank you for being in Seychelles to cover the carnival that brings the world together. When we launched this cultural event five years ago, we knew that we were staging a carnival that would unite the Seychellois people, and this is immaterial of their political affiliation, their religious belief, and of the color of their skin. This event is also a stage for Africa to learn to work with Africa, and for Africa to get to know Africa, and thirdly this event is also a stage for the world to learn to live in harmony and in so doing promote peace. By being in Seychelles, you will now become our ambassadors telling the world there is only one event that brings together the culture of the world in one of the smallest capitals of the world,” Minister St.Ange said.

President James Michel on his part said that the Seychelles is a country of peace and stability.

“Let’s unite in peace and in unity and let us showcase the value of our culture,” President Michel said.

The closing ceremony of the 2015 edition of the Seychelles Carnaval International de Victoria was also attended by Xavier-Luc Duval, the Deputy Prime Minister of Mauritius; Anne Lafortune, Principal Secretary for Tourism; Benjamine Rose, Principal Secretary for Culture; and Sherin Naiken, Chief Executive of the Seychelles Tourism Board.
