What’s the right hotel if you want more than a night’s rest

What’s the right hotel if you want more than a night’s rest ( Tips from a leading hotel and spa specialist

How do you choose the right hotel or resort if you want to come away from your stay feeling uplifted, happier and healthier? This question is frequently asked of Anne Biging who heads the leading hotel and spa specialist group, Healing Hotels of the World.

“There’s a huge revival in visiting hotels or resorts to reclaim wellbeing not just have a good time,” she said. “But each person has different expectations so I answer with my own questions such as: What outcome would you like from your stay? or What do you long to experience and learn about?

“The key outcome is to ensure that the wellbeing benefits of your hotel stay last well after you have left. That’s why these are my top three tips:

• All aspects of the hotel should reflect a holistic wellbeing and health-giving philosophy including world class treatments and healthy cuisine
• A one-on-one consultancy should be offered at the beginning of your stay
• Check that they understand the outcome you expect from this particular experience so they can deliver it

“Obviously, a one-on-one consultancy early in the stay is important so that guests can really focus on their health and maximise their stay,” Ms Biging said.

“Healing Hotels of the World (HHW) established its criteria so that member properties covered every aspect of the complete hotel, from the attitude of the staff and how staff was treated, to healthy food in the rooms and not just at the table. Ambience is core so that when you come out of a treatment room you feel the same sensitivity throughout the property. The hotel has to live and breathe holistic wellbeing,” she pointed out.

“We’ve seen such a growth in five-star properties incorporating what was once considered ‘alternative’ health programs in their spas that we have said the industry has reached a tipping point,” she continued.

“Spas are not just about relaxation anymore—they’re aiming at bringing long-term improvements in their clients’ health,” she said.

HHW members—which are all high-end properties—adopt a truly holistic health and transformational approach to their businesses.

“Travellers today are searching for something more meaningful in their lives. They want to get in touch with the wisdom of their own bodies and also with the wisdom of ancient cultures, which have cultivated holistic knowledge. Modern multi-taskers also look for medical facilities in hotels for evaluation, screens and treatment while they enjoy their holidays,” she said.
