WTM World Responsible Day has New Advisor

WTM World Responsible Day has New Advisor (Forimmediaterelease.net) Sindiswa Nhlumayo, one of the hosts of the international responsible tourism conference leading to the adoption of the far-reaching Cape Town Declaration in 2002, has become the newest member of the WTM World Responsible Tourism Day Advisory Panel.

Deputy Director General for The Department of Environmental Affairs and Tourism in South Africa, Sindiswa joins leading responsible tourism experts from across the world. Chaired by Prof. Harold Goodwin, Director of the International Centre for Responsible Tourism at Leeds Metropolitan University in the UK, the panel is advising World Travel Market on how best to progress WTM World Responsible Tourism Day, the most ambitious global day of action ever introduced. Now in its second year, the day - on Wednesday 12 November - aims to inspire, educate, challenge and stimulate travel companies and organisations large and small to take direct action, whether they are attending World Travel Market or not. “As someone who strongly believes in the responsible tourism cause, I am delighted that Sindiswa has agreed to help", said WTM Chairman Fiona Jeffery. “She believes that sustainable tourism should really mean tourism that minimises negative environmental, social and cultural impact, while generating economic benefits for local people." Ms Nhlumayo said she is excited to be part of the WRTD Advisory Panel. “It will enable me to share my personal experiences on approaches adopted by South Africa to advance responsible tourism", she said. “This will also provide me with an opportunity to learn how best responsible tourism can be implemented in all facets of the industry." As the former head of the first ever Tourism Black Economic Empowerment Council in South Africa, she helped to transform the tourism sector and ensure that black people fairly benefited from the growing tourism industry. Earlier, she was Special Advisor on tourism to the Minister of Environmental Affairs and Tourism and Chief Director for Tourism in the Western Cape.
Other members of the advisory panel are:
