The sky, the sun, and the sea…

The forty participating travel agents in the latest edition of the LUX Under the Stars by Kuoni arrived on Monday at Roland Garros Airport on flight UU 977 operated by the island’s home airline, Air Austral, before being transferred to the west coast’s beaches at the hotel Lux on Reunion Island.

After a lunch that gave them a taste of the culinary variety Reunion Island has to offer, the travel professionals were able to try the transparent kayak in the lagoon on the occasion of the first adventure of LUX Under the Stars by Kuoni. After enjoying the turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean and the white sandy beach along the hotel, the group went to visit the Hotel Reef for a dinner under the stars!

Hiking in the heart of Mafate

After a day by the sea, what better way to experience the destination through a hike into the heart of Mafate, a paradise for hikers and a unique place far away from civilization.

After an ascent by 4x4 vehicles to Salazie where lush vegetation and waterfalls amazed the group of forty guests, the hike of about three hours was started, offering some of the island’s most panoramic views. After the group arrived in La Nouvelle, a typical Creole lunch on the island awaited the participants who were thrilled by the ride and surveyed landscapes. Jean-Yves Begue of Tamaréo received the guests in the pure tradition of Reunion Island and tested their taste buds from appetizers to dessert - and all this in a musical atmosphere and Creole pace of Maloya, a cultural variety listed as an Intangible Heritage by UNESCO.

The return to the west coast was done in a helicopter, an absolute must to discover the natural heritage of the island with its Pitons, cirques, and ramparts which are also registered with the World Heritage by UNESCO. Only from the air does one get a full overview over the island’s rugged interior and the lush vegetation which makes up Reunion Island.

In line with its business development strategy and training for tourism professionals, the IRT joined the LUX Under the Stars event by Kuoni and met with the agents and provided them with information and answered a wide range of questions about the destination.

It was mission accomplished for the IRT, which sought to provide a better understanding of the destination of meeting products to all participants, in order to increase sales to Reunion Island.
