Jazz and African music take center stage on Reunion Island ( The first trumpet blast was heard last Wednesday, April 1, at the Léspas Cultural Leconte de Lisle in St. Paul with Return to Gorée or the journey of African singer Youssou N'Dour. He followed the musical trail the of black slaves and played the type of music that they created. His opening act was followed by Dyalo-Dyalo on Friday, April 3, and Jamy Pedro on Saturday, April 4.

On April 9, the concert venue will host Manouchkaia who will play his gypsy tones before making space for one of the greatest virtuosos of his generation, Ibrahima Sory Diabaté.

Saturday, April 11, will give the audience an opportunity to start the weekend with the sounds of Frank Sinatra through a tribute written by the author, composer, and performer Gabriel Marini.

The BTTO Plein Air Saint-Gilles-les-Hauts then opens its stage to well-known jazz artists next week from April 16 with such performers like Philippe Torreton and musician Edward Perraud. These performers will take the lyrics of Allain Leprest and bring it to life with percussion music.

At the same performance, the audience can enjoy the presentations of Ivorian jazz giant and one of the most respected drummers in the world, Paco Sery.

On April 17 at 7:30 pm, more concerts follow - that evening with Thomas and his new generation Sextet Pourquery who pay tribute to the compositions of Sun Ra, followed by French trumpeter Stéphane Belmondo.

The Piano Quartet Volkanik opens the evening of April 18 performances conversation with performances by four of the best pianists of Reunion Island. Popular melodies by Yuri Buenaventura will then be the closing performance of the Jazz and African Music days on Reunion Island.
