Its the Oscars Season in New Zealand!
The ballot box is open and it’s time to line up the nominees for the New Zealand Tourism Awards and the Kiwi Specialist of the Year for 2008. “Each year, we take the opportunity to recognize the hard work of our industry partners to celebrate their success and profitability in selling New Zealand,” said Annie Dundas, Regional Manager of Tourism New Zealand, North America.
New Zealand Tourism Awards 2008 – enter by May 1, 2008
For the first time, the annual New Zealand Tourism Awards will be held in New Zealand, prior to the Tourism Rendezvous New Zealand (TRENZ) conference, on May 25 at the Duxton Okawa Bay in Rotorua. Tour operators can submit examples of how they have creatively marketed the destination, by entering in any of the following five categories:
1.1. Best New Zealand Consumer Brochure
2.2. Best New Zealand Trade Brochure
3.3. Best New Zealand Online Content
4.4. Best New Zealand Consumer Marketing/Promotional Campaign
5.5. Best New Zealand Trade Marketing/Promotional Campaign
North American wholesalers can enter in as many categories as they like, and the competition is open to any North American tour operator selling vacations to New Zealand as of May 1, 2008. The entries are judged by a panel and the results will be announced on May 25 at the awards ceremony in New Zealand.
In addition to the categories above, prizes will also be presented to the “Wholesaler of the Year,” as decided by Kiwi Specialists; and to the best-of-show “Supreme Award – New Zealand Travel Specialist of the Year 2008.”

Kiwi Specialist of the Year Award 2008 – enter by May 1, 2008
Top-selling Kiwi Specialist travel agents will also have a platform to showcase their ingenuity and dedication in selling travel to New Zealand via the “Kiwi Specialist of the Year” Award. This contest will evaluate integrated approaches in promoting the destination, with judging based on two criteria:
1.1. Consumer Marketing/Promotional Campaign or Event – direct mail, e-blasts, consumer night, promotional event, or marketing efforts that have run May 07 – May 08, or are currently running;
2.2. Proof of creative, ‘off-the-beaten track’ itineraries, - trips that reflect in-depth knowledge of the destination, innovative new ideas for clients, accuracy of information, and attention to detail
