Missing Person Poster Scheme Launched for Resorts and Hotels Worldwide

Missing Person Poster Scheme Launched for Resorts and Hotels Worldwide ( This summer thousands of hotels and resorts worldwide join Family Safe Holidays, an international network designed to help keep families safer on holiday.

The Federation of Tour Operators (FTO) and its members are supporting an initiative which makes it possible to create and distribute a missing person poster rapidly across participating resorts. Family Safe Holidays, a service developed and launched with ABTA in July 2007, has now been further developed with the help of the FTO and its members to bring many more resorts and hotels into the scheme.

Holidaymakers are encouraged to register their details and upload pictures of their group on and, in the unlikely event that one of their party goes missing whilst on holiday, one call to a 24 hour support line will ensure that a missing person poster is created and available for distribution within minutes. The poster is generated from a photo on the holiday party's free online account, which the family or other group will have created prior to the start of their holiday. The poster and details can be translated in up to six European languages. Updates may be made at any time should more information become available.

An electronic copy of the poster is automatically sent to key contacts in the resort and can also be accessed by, and distributed to, other hotels/resorts, airports, ports, the police and local emergency services as appropriate.

Holidaymakers can also use this service to register securely other important details such as passport numbers, credit card details, insurance policy details, medical conditions and medication. Using their unique registration log in they can access this information when necessary.

Paul Kent, founder of Community Alerts said: “We are delighted by the support and commitment shown by the FTO and its members. By engaging through them with the key hotels and resorts we will be providing a global network to help protect families, not only from the UK but potentially worldwide. In two to three years we aim to deliver a network of over 250,000 hotels and resorts, providing free help and reassurance to millions of registered families from all over the world.”

Commenting, Andy Cooper, Director General of the FTO adds, 'Tour operators put the safety of their customers and staff as their top priority, and we are pleased to recommend this added service designed to give rapid and efficient support to help find lost children and adults on holiday. We strongly recommend that customers load their details and photographs on to'
