Luxury travel operator Travcoa is now taking guests to the country to be wined and dined. “It was easily the best dining week of my life," Travcoa President Randy Durband said after a recent scout to the country.

Travcoa designed its 10-day “Taste of Slovenia" journey in partnership with Rok Kvaternik, the publisher of National Geographic Slovenia; Janez Bogataj, the author of National Geographic's “Taste Slovenia" cookbook; and Slovenian businessman Miha Rott. The group provided the luxury travel operator with their respective connections, cultural insights and on-the-ground expertise to create this authentic itinerary.

To start the trip, guests take part in a private cooking demonstration with Bogataj; visit several renowned wineries, such as Movia, for private tastings; dine at the former residence of Yugoslav president Josip Broz Tito; enjoy dinner with the mayor of Bled at a restaurant dedicated to the art of “slow food"; and then have the option to extend their trip by three days to travel exclusively with Bogataj.

“Every night we go to a different restaurant, such as Pikol or Za Gradom Roditsa, where the food is unexpected and contemporary and the wine pairings are just phenomenal," Durband said. “Plus the service is impeccable. The owners are right there waiting tables. These are family operations."

At the same time guests are satiating their culinary interests, they will explore the country, from Mediterranean-style seaside towns to villages reminiscent of the Swiss Alps. Travelers can stroll the cobblestone streets of the capital, Ljubljana; investigate the Postojna caverns; and watch an exclusive performance of Lipizzaner stallions in Lipica, where the breed originated. Guests also will enjoy a two-night stay at the Grand Hotel Toplice in Bled, with lake-view rooms.
