Abu Dhabi Women’s College City Campus and Seychelles Tourism Board Abu Dhabi Office celebrate Inter-cultural Day

Abu Dhabi Women’s College City Campus and Seychelles Tourism Board Abu Dhabi Office celebrate Inter-cultural Day ( For the third consecutive year, the Seychelles Tourism Board Abu Dhabi participated in International Cultural Day at the Abu Dhabi Women’s College (ADWC) city campus on Tuesday, March 10, 2015. Alongside Tunisia, the Czech Republic, Slovenia, Italy, Poland, and the Seychelles stood proudly representing Africa and was set up in an effort to promote the destination to the students and the expatriate lecturers at the campus. The Higher Colleges of Technology is one of the leading educational institutions in the UAE and has branches in all seven emirates, one of which is Abu Dhabi Women’s College. With a student population of more than 2,300, this college is a great market to capture.

One of ADWC’s aspirational goals and learning outcomes is learning abroad, cultural awareness, and active participation as a global citizen. To help facilitate this outcome, the Student Support and Development Department organized an International Cultural Day for the Emirati students to highlight the beauty and richness of the various cultures and the traditions that surround them. Targeting educational institutions is one of the Seychelles Tourism Board’s global strategies, so both institutions were able to marry their objectives in, what turned out to be, a highly enjoyable and most educational event.

The event was student-centered with each country setting up a display booth with lots of information in the guise of brochures, posters, and handicrafts, as well as typical cuisine or snacks. The Seychelles booth displayed the same, as well as the newly-released destination video. Students and their lecturers also had the opportunity to taste Seychelles’ traditional banana chips and “nougat banana,” and watch its promotional DVD and interact with Ms. Esther, the STB Tourism Attaché in Abu Dhabi.

The Seychelles outdid itself by providing live entertainment by local Seychellois musician, Mr. Emmanuel Marie. The latter has been a regular at this event since its inception three years ago. He was the star of the day once more as he demonstrated his versatility and cognizance with different musical styles and languages, including songs in the local language, Arabic. “He obliged, and literally seduced, the mainly female crowd when they made special requests for a friend’s birthday or a popular song,” said Ms. Esther. “The performance created an excellent opportunity for cultural awareness and exchange,” she added.

Also present at the Seychelles stand were Mr. Reji KB, Manager at DNATA, who put together a brochure exclusively for Seychelles, and Ms. Lisie Agripine, Sales Executive International Commercial, Air Seychelles.

The event was enjoyed by both the staff and students, as well as the exhibitors, and achieved its aim of providing a rich cultural exchange for everyone involved.
