Green Globe recently re-certified Mövenpick Resort Bangtao Beach Phuket in acknowledgement of its commitment to sustainable best practices.

The resort has a comprehensive Sustainability Management Plan that encompasses energy, water and waste reduction strategies. Energy consumption is monitored on a regular basis. And to optimize energy usage a high-efficiency air condition inverter compressor model has been installed to produce heating and cooling. In addition, energy efficient lighting has been deployed around the property.
Water output is also monitored and benchmarked continually. To reduce the resort’s impact on the neighboring environment both black and grey wastewater are treated at a wastewater treatment plant before disposal. Furthermore, non-drinking water collected from the city and an onsite well is purified through the resort’s Reverse Osmosis (RO) treatment plant to ensure it is clean and safe.
A waste sorting and recycling program has been implemented in offices, guest bedrooms and common areas. Paper, cardboard, glass, tin, batteries, plastic and oil are separated and disposed of or recycled by designated waste management companies. And to reduce further wastage, bulk packaging of goods is preferred rather than individually wrapped items.
Environmental responsibility extends to the resort’s purchasing policy that prefers environmental friendly certified products and suppliers. In addition, biodegradable alternatives and a reduction in the utilization of chemical based products are goals being pursued by the hotel.
Social initiatives that support local communities are also a large part of Mövenpick Resort Bangtao Beach Phuket’s commitment to sustainability. In association with local authorities the resort donates bed linen, towels and uniforms to people in need in the Northern and Eastern local provinces of Phuket. The resort also donates funds, gifts and books to underprivileged children including Child Care Holland House and the Phuket Has Been Good To Us Foundation. Projects supporting biodiversity include beach clean ups and the Annual Turtle Foundation.
