Kenyan and Finnish marathoners win Seychelles Eco-Friendly marathon

Kenyan and Finnish marathoners win Seychelles Eco-Friendly marathon ( Taking 2 hours, 38 minutes, and 22 seconds, Shadrack Tanui from Kenya was the first to reach the finish line at the Seychelles Eco-Friendly marathon held on February 22.

Mari Kauri, a runner from Finland, was the female winner of this eighth marathon held in Seychelles. She finished the marathon in sixth position taking a time of 3 hours, 46 minutes, and 30 seconds.

Kenyan Shadrack Tanui was followed by 2 of the same nationality, Paul Simbolel, who finished in 2 hours, 45 minutes, and 25 seconds, and Moses Njuguna in third place who took 3 hours, 8 minutes, and 48 seconds.

The race kicked off at the sound of the starter’s gun fired by the Designated Minister Vincent Meriton at 7 am for those running the full marathon and the half-marathon. Those running the 10 km and 5 km races left the starting point 45 minutes later.

Roberto Veneziani was the fourth place winner for this eighth marathon finishing in 3 hours, 9 minutes, followed by Roni Kauri in 3 hours, 22 minutes, and 9 seconds.

Representing the Seychelles People’s Defense Forces, Jemmy Annacoura, was the first finisher for the half-marathon, reaching the finish line 1 hour, 27 minutes, and 50 seconds, after he had left the same point.

He was followed by Seychellois, Keddy Moustache, in second position, who took 1 hour, 30 minutes, and 6 seconds. Third finisher for the half-marathon was Simon Bierley in 1 hour, 30 minutes, and 28 seconds.

British runner, Andrew Gardiner, took 1 hour, 37 minutes, and 1 second, followed by Benjamin Lin in 1 hour, 38 minutes, and 13 seconds.

This year’s Seychelles Eco-Friendly marathon winner, Shadrack Tanui, became the first non-national to win the marathon, after Seychellois, Simon Labiche, has dominated it for the past years except for the year 2012 when James Barra was the winner.
