Reunion Island’s tourism marketing efforts in India begin to pay off

Reunion Island’s tourism marketing efforts in India begin to pay off ( Only weeks after attending SATTE 2015, South Asia’s leading tourism trade show held in Delhi, India, the efforts of Reunion Island Tourism (IRT) started to pay off. Reunion Island Tourism had a stand at the exhibition and then followed up their marketing drive in India with a trade seminar at the city of Chennai, reaching a combined 500 travel agents and tour operators keen to learn more about Reunion Island and ready to begin offering group tours.

With a visa waiver program now in place, similar to the ones for South Africa and China, Reunion Island expects a sharp rise in visitor numbers from India. A group of 16 arrived earlier this week with Air Austral, which operates nonstop flights from St. Denis, Reunion’s capital, to Chennai.

To meet the first group of travelers generated from the SATTE presence, Patrick Serveaux, President of Reunion Island Tourism, and several of his staff went to greet the visitors at Roland Garros International Airport, accompanied by a Maloya group performing for them.

Local inbound agency, Mille Tours, handled the transfers and ground arrangements for the Indian visitors who will spend a week on the island during a time when the Piton de la Fournaise is in eruption mode.
