Following Super Bowl More People Seek Addiction Treatment, Says Chapters Capistrano

(Forimmediaterelease.net) Heavy drinking associated with major social events such as the Super Bowl can highlight addiction problems and lead more people to get treatment, asserts Chapters Capistrano.
The Super Bowl this year came down to the wire, leaving viewers on the edge of their seats. At parties around the country people were gathered to watch and socialize. And as with many major social events, there is often drinking involved. Partygoers were drinking in celebration, anticipation, frustration, disappointment, or a combination of emotions. The aftermath of this night of heavy drinking leads many to realize they need help, whether they’re new to addiction or in recovery. Chapters Capistrano, a drug and alcohol rehab center in Orange County, has responded to this trend with a new statement to the press.

“Major social gatherings, such as holidays and sporting events, often involve alcohol as a way for people to unwind, socialize, and celebrate,” comments Mike Shea, founder of Chapters Capistrano. “For those in recovery, it can be filled with temptation and increase risk of relapse. For others, it can be a wake-up call that they are no longer in control and have a problem with addiction.”

But the good news, according to a recent ABC News article, is that more people are taking that next step and seeking treatment. Rehab centers around the country tend to see an influx of clients following the Super Bowl in particular, as well as holidays such as Thanksgiving and Christmas. Their excessive drinking and the consequences it has, such as blackouts, hangovers, or embarrassing moments, brings to light the fact that their alcohol consumption has become problematic.

According to the article, “A 2014 study from the University of Buffalo found that even among approximately 100 heavy drinking men, the Super Bowl lead to especially high amounts of alcohol consumption. The men were found to drink an average of 8.7 drinks on Super Bowl Sunday up from 6 drinks on a Saturday night, the day with the most alcohol consumption on average.”

“While some people are able to stop after one or two drinks, for others it gets out of hand,” notes Shea. “Family and friends realize how much those they care about are actually drinking and how it affects their behavior and health. Many recognize that it has been an ongoing issue and it’s time to step in and encourage their loved one to get treatment.”

Shea also states that these situations can put a lot of pressure on those in recovery because cravings and temptation run high. Being surrounded by people who are drinking and pressuring them to drink as well can lead to relapse. At this point they realize they need additional support and to get back on track with their recovery.

For those who are struggling with alcohol abuse, Chapters Capistrano offers customized addiction treatment to meet their individual needs and support them in recovery. “Whether it is your first time or you have tried other treatment programs in the past, our luxury drug and alcohol treatment center can help you overcome addiction and focus on starting a new chapter in your life,” says Shea.
