Frankfurt Airport opens new chapel in transit area

Frankfurt Airport opens new chapel in transit area ( A new ecumenical Christian chapel has opened in Transit Area B at Frankfurt Airport’s Terminal 1. Officially inaugurated on January 27, this new oasis for prayer and tranquility complements the chapel in Hall B of Terminal 1 and the Christian prayer room in the Terminal 2 transit zone. Frankfurt Airport now offers a total of 10 prayer rooms or chapels – located in the pre-security areas or post-security transit zones of both terminals. The new place of worship for Christians is open around the clock to passengers, as well as airline and airport employees. The chapel also features a separate room for visitors who wish to contact a member of the airport chaplaincy individually.
Places of meditation and worship for Jewish and Muslim travelers are also offered at FRA’s Terminal 1 and 2. The idea of a new interdenominational Christian chapel was initiated by Fraport AG (the owner and manager of Frankfurt Airport), so that transfer passengers would have more space for retreat in Terminal 1’s remodeled transit area.

For many years, Fraport and the Christian Social Services have been cooperating closely to provide assistance to passengers and employees and to meet social services requirements. At a global aviation hub like FRA, prayer rooms for different faiths provide space for religious diversity, thus contributing to dialog and peaceful coexistence among the world’s religions.
