Frankfurt Airport extends information services for passengers: waiting times at checkpoints now displayed on smartphones and in the terminals

Frankfurt Airport extends information services for passengers: waiting times at checkpoints now displayed on smartphones and in the terminals (Forimmediaterelease.net) Security has top priority in aviation. This makes it important to diligently screen departing passengers, even if this means that they may take a little longer to get to their flights. To help passengers anticipate waits at the checkpoints, which unfortunately can’t always be avoided, Fraport is now providing a new, unique service. The Frankfurt Airport App sends the expected waiting times at passport and security checkpoints straight to your smartphone in real time. This helps you decide how early you need to leave home to avoid the stress of long lines at the airport. The information is also displayed on the information kiosks around Frankfurt Airport. “We’re making it a bit easier for passengers to find their way through the terminals to their planes,” says Dr. Pierre Dominique Prümm, Senior Executive Vice President at Fraport AG for Airside&Terminal Management, Corporate Safety&Security. “Now they can plan their time at the airport better and tell, for example, if they have enough leeway to do a little shopping.” The airport provides this information in German, English, and Chinese.

The service with automatic display of waiting times has already demonstrated its value. For months, a sensor-equipped system has been measuring how much time elapses between when passengers arrive at checkpoints and when they emerge on the other side. The results are displayed on monitors in the terminals. It’s also possible to choose a checkpoint on an interactive map and display the fastest route for getting there.

The real-time information service for waits at passport and security checkpoints, available at information kiosks and via the Frankfurt Airport App, is yet another component of the “Great to have you here!” service quality program, initiated several years ago at Frankfurt Airport to enhance the passenger experience at Germany’s largest aviation hub. In 2014, Fraport Airport welcomed around 60 million passengers.
