Seychelles musicians to get new outlet to sell their music albums

Seychelles musicians to get new outlet to sell their music albums (Forimmediaterelease.net) Musicians of Seychelles will have an outlet to sell their music albums, an announcement made by the Minister for Tourism and Culture, Alain St.Ange, during a meeting recently with a group of performing artists.

The “Made in Seychelles” shop will be dedicated to local artists to sell their music and help their creations become more visible. A similar shop will be located in due course at the Carrefours des Arts for the same purpose.

The news was welcomed by the artists present at the meeting which was chaired by Minister St.Ange along with the Principal Secretary for Culture, Benjamine Rose, and Chief Executive of the National Arts Council, Jimmy Savy.

Minister St.Ange added that there is a need to relook at how the ministry can consolidate the presence of performing artists at national events.

Another announcement made by the Minister was the fact that event organizers will have to be Seychellois solely. Foreign companies will only be able to support and bring their expertise, but will not be able to head an events company.

During the meeting, an architect, Danny Souffe, from the Ministry of Land Use and Housing, gave a presentation on the proposed new music stadium, giving the artists a general overview of the project.

Minister St.Ange called on the artists to become ambassadors of Seychelles’ music in the world, not only in their country.

He urged them to follow the footsteps of the top zouk band from Martinique, Kassav, whose members are Creole ambassadors.

Minister St.Ange added that there is a need to break barriers and put Seychellois artists in the forefront internationally.

“There is a need for our artists to leave their footprints on the music scene in the world. We need to join forces and push forward,” he said.

Speaking about the “I love Seychelles” national theme, Minister St.Ange said he would like to see more music related to the theme.

He also urged the artists to come forward with any memorabilia such as the first suit they performed, record or cd, or any of the sort, so that these can be displayed in the premises of the Ministry of Tourism and Culture.

Suggestions by artists at the end of the meeting were taken into account by the Minister and his team.
