Are all waters created equal? Alkaline vs. the other stuff
Most people understand that water is important for the human body to survive. Indeed, it is one of the most important, if not the most important, resource that we consume every day. Despite knowing this, most people don't understand exactly how or why water is so important.
Why water? Why is it so important?
Everyone's heard the statistics, the human body is comprised of approximately 65% water (over 70% in the brain). This water supply is involved in practically everything our bodies do to function and survive. From digestion to circulation, water is the primary vehicle used to transport nutrients and is necessary for even keeping our body temperatures at the correct levels.
Are all waters created equal?
a) Tap Water: Water obtained from the tap of most homes and offices is regarded as being safe by authorities, having little risk of causing long term harm upon consumption. This blanketed term of 'safe' can have a wide (and sometimes terrifying) variation. Regardless of the source of any particular amount of tap water (which can be from a nearby stream, reservoirs or can even be filtered rain water), it is susceptible to a long list of alarming impurities. To name but a few, the following contaminants have been shown to sometimes be present in tap water:
And even cyanides
b) Bottle Water: The logical conclusion to which most people jump, in response to hearing all the potential contaminants in our accessible water supply, is to simply switch to bottled water. However, does this resolve all the issues of tap water? Alarmingly, the damage caused by the use of bottled water can be similar to that of tap water. First off, the plastic from which these bottles are made can seep bacteria and toxins into the water. Re-using these plastic water bottles by refilling them with tap water can be doubly harmful. Aside from these dangerous plastics, the water itself is often of a grade that can harm the human body. The water found in bottles can contain dangerously high levels of:
c) Alkaline Water: The benefits of drinking alkaline water can be numerous. Some major ones (to name a few) are as follows:
Antioxidant properties: Antioxidants present in alkaline water can combat the aging process and help fight off disease.
Cleansing properties: Alkaline water can help cleanse the organs of the body and even remove harmful waste that builds and can cause damage over the long term.
Physical appearance: Aside from the benefits to the inside of the body, alkaline water can actually help out outer bodies as well! It can aid in the detoxification of skin, which can cause it to look younger, be less prone to breakouts and improve overall elasticity, a cheaper alternative to expensive cosmetics or spa treatments.
Alkaline water, the cornerstone to healthy living
To boast that alkaline water can be used as a cure to a toxic lifestyle would perhaps be a stretch. However, when used in conjunction with a happy and healthy lifestyle, alkaline water can form the bedrock of a fulfilling, natural, and holistic life.
