Seychelles to get its Sustainable Tourism Label recognized worldwide

Seychelles to get its Sustainable Tourism Label recognized worldwide (Forimmediaterelease.net) The Seychelles Minister for Tourism and Culture has pledged to spread the message to the world, “Seychelles has a label that promotes sustainable tourism.”

Alain St.Ange, Minister for Tourism and Culture, made this pledge to three tourism establishments re-certified with the Seychelles Sustainable Tourism Label (SSTL).

Berjaya Beau Vallon Bay Resort, Constance Ephelia Resort, and Hanneman Holiday Residence, initially certified in 2012 with the Seychelles Sustainable Tourism Label, after having accumulated the minimum 60 points, have now been re-certified with the label.

After two years of certifying tourism establishments, the tourism establishments were re-assessed in 2014. Hotels which scored 10 extra points were re-certified with the label.

It was Minister St.Ange who was given the honor of presenting the three tourism establishments with their labels.

Minister St.Ange said that the Seychelles Tourism Board will now be marketing tourism establishments certified with a Seychelles Sustainable Tourism Label at international tourism trade fairs.

“We will keep on fighting to get your name to the world. To give you an extra mile, we will be marketing your establishments in the tourism trade fairs, because you have become part of the Seychellois team who is serious about being seen as good custodians of our country's pristine environment and of our tourism label,” the Minister said.

Minister St.Ange added that having been re-certified with the Seychelles Sustainable Tourism Label, meant that the three establishments stood a great chance to enter into the hotel classification program.

“As we embark on guidelines for grading of tourism establishments, this Sustainable Tourism Label you are today getting will play an important role to get you graded,” claimed Minister St.Ange.

Over the past two years, Berjaya Beau Vallon Bay Resort, Constance Ephelia Resort, and Hanneman Holiday Residence adopted good practices to remain in the lead of tourism establishments certified with the Sustainable Tourism Label.

Mr. Matthias Colomba, Resident Manager of the Constance Ephelia Resort, said, “Travelers are becoming more demanding for establishments certified [with the] Sustainable Tourism Label.”

Mr. Kevin Ooi, General Manager of the Berjaya Beau Vallon Bay Resort, added that the establishment “feels honored to receive the re-certification label” and he believes that “it is a concept the hotel will continue to promote.”

Hanneman Holiday Residence, the only small tourism establishment in Seychelles, was re-certified with this label, and its General Manager, Hubert Habets, is eager to “pass on his experience with other small establishments.”

The Seychelles Sustainable Tourism Label (SSTL) is awarded to tourism establishments by the Tourism Department. Anne Lafortune, Principal Secretary for Tourism, said the “department will continue to give [the] Sustainable Tourism Label, its rightful place.” She announced that Seychelles is working on a possible mutual agreement with Fair Trade Tourism (FTT) of South Africa to recognize the Seychelles Sustainable Tourism Label. She said this will be facilitated trough Seychelles’ mutual membership with the African Alliance.
