Reunion Island – ready for 2015

Reunion Island – ready for 2015 ( Reunion Island asked the right question to their French compatriots on the European mainland yesterday evening: “What if you spent celebrating New Year three hours ahead of anyone else? It takes no time machine but only a flight to Reunion…” not even rubbing in the summer weather this French Indian Ocean island can offer their visitors at this time of the year.

Sand between the toes or adventures on New Year’s Day, this island can offer it all to their visitors, whether they come from France or from anywhere else around the world. Folklore evenings, exotic cocktails mixed with the island’s renowned rum and vanilla, spicy Creole dishes, unusual dinners with family and friends at unusual locations. Celebrating on the western beaches, in hotels, resorts or in restaurants you can be sure of an incredible Eve New Year's Eve on Reunion Island. And as good news never comes alone, to start the year 2015, the austral summer is in full swing at this time of year in the southern hemisphere with temperatures of around 30° Celsius.

Those who prefer an unusual experience, be it to relax or to celebrate from dusk to dawn, the most unforgettable location of New Year's Eve, the lagoon of the Hermitage, is the place where thousands of Reunionistas congregate along the island’s beaches.

It is here where New Year’s Eve traditional dishes give way to local specialties. The tradition here on Reunion Island for New Year's Eve is the pate Creole especially baked for this special occasion. It is eaten salty, with pork or chicken, or sweet, topped with local jams made of Litchi or Mango or other tropical fruits.

At the stroke of midnight last night, three hours earlier than in Paris, fireworks lit up the beaches.

Reunion Island’s tourism office and the people of Reunion wish you all the best for the New Year to the sound of Sega, Maloya, and the international music tunes.

The sky of Reunion Island sparkled with a thousand lights last night and was adorned with a thousand colors. For added information on Destination Reunion, click on and for hints on where to stay or what to do on the island visit
