CITM Shanghai: Reunion Island positioned in the Chinese market

CITM Shanghai: Reunion Island positioned in the Chinese market (Forimmediaterelease.net) Since the official announcement approving the exemption of visas for Chinese tourists in July 2014, Reunion Island Tourism (IRT) has participated in the CITM exhibition, one of the largest Chinese professional events. Beyond the event, which was held from November 14-16, 2014, a workshop was also organized between Reunion Island partners and Chinese tourism professionals.

The IRT participated in Beijing COTTM in the month of April, during which Chinese tour operators had strongly expressed interest to meet the local Reunion Island DMCs. The CITM then appeared as an opportunity for the IRT to fulfill this interest by going to participate in the exhibition in Shanghai. From a 36m² stand, facing Mauritius, the IRT was accompanied by local partners Azot 'Tours, Mille Tours, Anthurium, Horizon Meeting Odyssey, Corail Helicopters, and LUX group.

On site, all Reunion Islands professionals made many appointments during the first two days, dedicated exclusively to B2B. The President of the IRT, Patrick Serveaux, was also on site and heavily approached by the Chinese media, including the largest chain of CTTV China, which conducted many interviews. In total, more than 1,500 people visited the Reunion Island exhibition stand.

Stéphane Bonneau, head of large Indian Ocean markets, Asian, and local, was the presence of ESRD which was structured around several objectives:

- Communicate and inform about the destination

- Communicate on the strengths of the island

- Highlight the combined Vanilla Islands and complementarities of the islands through their differences

- Provoke programming meeting among Chinese tour operators

- Increase sales in the short and medium term

In order to optimize the movement of the Reunion Island delegation to China, the first for these local tourism professionals, a workshop was organized ahead of the show. On November 12, 2014, ten journalists, as well as 200 travel and tour operators alike responded positively to the invitation from Reunion Island Tourism.

After the opening speech by Patrick Serveaux, Stéphane Bonneau presented the destination meeting workshop at the event. The workshop took place in the form of individual meetings between Chinese and local professionals. By late evening, a draw allowed guests to leave with grants offered by Reunion Island partners.

The presence of the destination meeting companies in Shanghai proved to be a great success among Chinese professionals. Reunion Island, as a new additional destination, along with Mauritius, has captured the interest of the Chinese and particularly in the context of a combined meeting with Mauritius. The Chinese are seeking exclusive destinations such as Reunion Island which seems to suit their needs. The French culture, romantic atmosphere of the island, diversity of landscapes, and outdoor activities correspond to the demand of Chinese customers.
