FRA – Gateway to the Galaxy: Visit Fraport’s AirXperience Day “Weightless – a Trip into the Universe” at Frankfurt Airport
As a special attraction, Ulf Merbold – a former astronaut of the European Space Agency (ESA) – will greet visitors from 12:00 to 14:00 and describe his experiences as a space traveler. Ulf Merbold was the first ESA astronaut to fly abroad the Space Shuttle. During three missions he spent a total of 50 days in space. The Frankfurt/Rhine-Main-Neckar region, which has a long history of aviation, is also closely linked to space endeavors. Europe’s “Mission Control”, the European Space Operations Centre (ESOC), is located just 30 minutes south of FRA in the science city of Darmstadt.
AirXperience Day reveals stunning images at the Hubble Space Telescope exhibition. Visitors can see the beauty and vastness of the universe as captured by this “Almighty Orbiting Eye”. Don’t miss the world’s largest panoramic photograph of the Milky Way galaxy.
Continuing to excite new generations of fans, the Star Wars saga is represented at AirXperience Day by life-size figures and models from this galactic adventure. Guests can spin the Wheel of Fortune to win Star Wars prizes. Try out the Aerotrimm machine to feel the sensation of weightlessness or sample some tasty astronaut food.
There are plenty of spacey activities for children as well. By wearing a spacesuit and doing a simulated moonwalk, youngsters can find out what it is like to be an astronaut. Face-painting allows kids to transform themselves into weird-looking aliens. Craft making activities will enable children to design their own spaceships and other objects. Creativity is unlimited, just like the universe itself! Large and small guests can explore the FRA aviation hub by participating in the Airport Space Rally.
Musical entertainment will be provided by a live band playing galactic versions of famous theme songs. The airport’s many shops and restaurants will also be open on AirXperience Day, offering ample opportunities for browsing, shopping and relaxing. A perfect way to round off your visit is to join in one of Fraport’s interesting Airport Tours, which can be booked in advance online.
Further information about Fraport’s AirXperience Days can be found on the Frankfurt Airport Web site. Guests booking one of Fraport’s Airport Tours or taking part in the AirXperience Day rallies will receive a parking voucher valid for up to four hours at Terminal 1‘s P2 and P3 parking garages or at Terminal 2’s P8 and P9 parking garages. The parking vouchers are available on AirXperience Day at the Airport Tours counter in the Airport City Mall (Level Zero, Terminal 1) or at the various rally stations in the terminals.
