Majeka House introduces Makaron´s new Kitchen Table

Majeka House introduces Makaron´s new Kitchen Table ( At Majeka House, guests can choose to dine at the Kitchen Table, in the heart of Makaron´s new kitchen

Makaron Restaurant has just introduced a Kitchen Table, designed for two, and a new menu characterized by the creative stamp of Head Chef Tanja Kruger. More than ever before, Tanja strives to express her personality through the creations on the menu. The restaurant´s front-of-house team, managed by Dean Cole and sommelier Esmé Groenewald, brings personalized, informal service excellence to the experience of dining here, complemented by sophisticated interiors and an intimate ambience. Rates for a stay at Majeka House start at approximately 160 Euros per room per night in a Premier Collection Room. Further information at

Interior designer Etienne Hanekom, responsible for the interiors of Majeka House and Makaron Restaurant, was tasked with injecting some creativity into Makaron´s new kitchen to inspire culinary genius in a traditionally hardworking, utilitarian space. Most striking are the New York subway-style tiled wall in charcoal grey, olive-green and cream. A linear window between the kitchen and restaurant allows diners a glimpse into the busy pastry and cold-starter kitchen while giving chefs a perspective on the activity in the restaurant.

Informal and close to the action, the Kitchen Table is literally a table for two in the kitchen – like having front-row seats in a culinary theatre, taking in all the action that happens during a typical dinner service. Guests at the Kitchen Table are served a five-course tasting menu by the chefs in the kitchen, and the sommelier comes into the kitchen to offer wine pairings with each course.

Makaron´s new season-menu was inspired by Tanja´s sabbatical earlier this year. Instead of cooking in famous kitchens in Europe, as she did last year, she chose to walk the camino – the full 800 kilometers of the famous Camino de Santiago pilgrimage route – and came back a changed person, she says. Examples include a starter of ancient grains with miniature vegetables and a cauliflower veloute; a main course such as the dry-aged ribeye and marrow with parsley crumble and onion, and a dessert of fresh fruit with passion fruit marshmallows and lemongrass.

Nestled on a private garden estate in historic Stellenbosch in South Africa, at Majeka House a lifestyle of quiet luxury awaits guests in a lavishly-appointed 22 rooms and suites. A discreet service invites to relay, while the exquisite location in the midst of the Stellenbosch Wine Route invites to visit the surrounding renowned vineyards. The relaxed ambience of the fine-dining restaurant Makaron, with its roaring fire during chilly winter evenings, or the smell of roses and jasmine in the air whilst sitting outside on the terrace in the summer, creates a memorable dining experience. At the Majeka Spa, guests are welcomed by the gracious, well-trained and experienced therapists, attentive to guests personal needs.
