Destination Wine: Wineries and Wines of the World at Frankfurt Airport

Destination Wine: Wineries and Wines of the World at Frankfurt Airport ( Destination: Wine – the 1st International Wine Fair at Frankfurt Airport (FRA) is being presented by Fraport, the airport’s manager, over the next three days in Terminal 1. The cosmopolitan ambiance of Frankfurt Airport provides a fascinating setting for this unique international fair, where visitors can embark on an international wine-tasting voyage. More than 40 exhibitors – handpicked wineries and wine traders from around the globe – are presenting their wares at booths in the public area of Terminal 1, on the departures level. Destination Wine is open from 12:00 to 20:00 on November 7 and November 8, as well on November 9 from 12:00 to 18:00. Admission at the fair costs only 10 euros, in the form of a wine-glass deposit, half of which will be refunded when returning the glass.

FRA’s role as a trendsetter is underscored by the innovative concept underlying Destination Wine. After all, FRA is the gateway to Germany’s own wine producing regions, most of which are located within a one or two hour drive of the airport. In addition, FRA serves as a shipping center for importers and exporters of international wines.

At Germany’s gateway to the world, where thousands of passengers mingle and international products including wine are sought after, this new event offers wine lovers a prime opportunity to sample superb products and vintages. The exhibitors include established names such as Germany’s Schloss Reinhartshausen winery and Höfferle, which specializes in South American wines, as well as many newcomers eager to show off their wares at a global hub like Frankfurt Airport. Indeed, only about a quarter of the exhibitors hail from Germany. This “first edition” of the annual Destination Wine fair will allow consumers, retailers and restaurants to experience products from most major wine-producing countries.

FRA’s home-base carrier Lufthansa will also be represented via its LSG subsidiary, which is offering an exquisite selection of renowned wines enjoyed by Lufthansa’s first and business class passengers. Its catering partner Nordsee will also serve fresh seafood at an Oyster Bar. Musicians from different countries will provide entertainment in the form of live piano and saxophone performances.

Wine seminars will also be presented by leading wine connoisseurs and experts at the ACC Airport Conference Center, located in the Frankfurt Airport Center opposite Terminal 1. For bookings and information visit the Frankfurter Stadt Events website (German only).

A schedule and guide to the Destination Wine exhibitors can also be downloaded from the Frankfurt Airport website. An ideal way to round out a visit to Destination Wine is experience one of Fraport’s exciting airport tours, which also can be booked online. The Terminal 2 Visitors’ Terrace is currently closed until next spring for extensive remodeling.
