ITE MICE ~ Hong Kong’s only international exhibition of its kind, facilitates corporations planning MICE functions
The latest study commissioned by the Hong Kong Exhibition&Convention Industry Association (HKECIA) provides a good illustration. It found the numbers of exhibitors in trade fairs held in the city in 2006 grew respectively by 139% from mainland China, 25% from Hong Kong and 50% from the Asia-Pacific region; and growths in the number of visitors in the same year are respectively 24% from mainland China and 43% from the Asia Pacific region.
This observation, in fact, is valid also for the Asia-Pacific region. On the other hand, the large number of new facilities in the region makes it particularly attractive as destination for MICE events.
ITE MICE is being organized differently. Firstly, it is being held concurrently with the long established ITE which has been well attended by travel trade from Hong Kong, mainland China particularly southern China and Asia. A significant portion of MICE business from the region is still being handled by travel agents. Secondly, it is being supported by HKECIA, ie., by the event industry, and by international chambers of commerce from neighboring cities of Shenzhen and Dongguan.
While travel managers and personnel from corporations are being invited as trade visitors, ITE MICE targets also management. In fact, a new type of Guest Invitation, which allows access during both trade and public days, are being distributed to members of chambers of commerce, trade associations and professional bodies.
The last editions of ITE and ITE MICE featured 650 exhibitors from over 50 countries and regions with over 40 official participations by tourism authorities from Africa, Americas, Asia, Europe and Middle East. The two trade days drew 11655 trade and corporate visitors, with over 35% from mainland China and other parts of Asia and 23% being corporate visitors.
The coming ITE MICE will be held from 12 to 14 Jun this year at the Hong Kong Convention&Exhibition Center while ITE will be held from June 12 to 15, which are supported by China National Tourism Administration, Hong Kong Tourism Board, Travel Industry Council of Hong Kong and Macau Government Tourist Office. In addition, the Hong Kong Exhibition&Convention Industry Association supports ITE MICE.
