CBS's Survivor Selects Palau as Repeat Destination For The Show's Fans vs. Favorites Series

( As one of the “Underwater Wonders of the World” and a multi-recipient of readers choice awards from Scuba Diving Magazine, Palau is the first destination to be selected as a repeat destination for the popular reality show, Survivor.

Scheduled to kick off on Thursday, February 7, 2008, Survivor: Micronesia – Fans vs. Favorites introduces a SURVIVOR first… 10 ultra-fans of the series will take on 10 former castaways to compete as FANS vs. FAVORITES. The two tribes will be marooned amidst the Rock Islands of Palau, Micronesia. The skills of the former castaways will be put to the test while the tribe of first-time competitors will see if their enthusiasm and passion for the game is enough to distinguish them as worthy competitors.

It should be no mystery why Palau has been selected as the reality show’s only repeat destination. Not only is this breathtaking destination one of the “Wonders of the World,” but SCUBA DIVING magazine recently awarded numerous Reader's Choice Awards for 2007 to the Republic of Palau in Micronesia. “Healthy reefs and schooling fish helped make Palau one our readers’ top overall picks among Pacific destinations," according to Scuba Diving Editors.

“We are pleased that Palau continues to be recognized by acclaimed television production companies and the leading dive magazines in the U.S. as the world's foremost diving destination," said Darin De Leon, Managing Director of the Palau Visitors Authority. “We are committed to promoting our heritage and the unique attractions of Palau through sustainable tourism development and the encouragement of responsible practices to preserve our diverse marine life and fragile ecosystem."

Located in the westernmost corner of Micronesia, Palau is an archipelago of more than 586 islands with about 20,000 inhabitants. Consistently ranked as one of the world's best dive destinations, Palau is the ultimate paradise for the adventurous traveler, boasting some of the most spectacular water features and beaches as well as the world famous Rock Islands and Jellyfish Lake. With more than 1,400 species of fish and 500 species of coral, some have called Palau the “8th Natural Wonder of the World", while others have identified Palau as “One of the Seven Underwater Wonders of the World." (Note: According to Wikipedia as well as CEDAM International, an organization dedicated to conservation, education, diving and marine research, Palau is on the top of the list of the Seven Wonders of the Underwater World. The other six recognized wonders include the Belize Barrier Reef, the Galapagos Islands, the Northern Red Sea, Lake Baikal, the Great Barrier Reef and the Deep Sea Vents. Each was selected on the basis of its natural beauty, unique marine life, scientific research value, environmental significance and whether it is representative of an overall area.)
