FCS Cargo Terminal at Frankfurt Airport Implements Innovative LED Lighting Technology to Enhance Work Environment and Save Energy

FCS Cargo Terminal at Frankfurt Airport Implements Innovative LED Lighting Technology to Enhance Work Environment and Save Energy (Forimmediaterelease.net) While focusing on professional and efficient cargo handling services for its customers, Fraport Cargo Services GmbH (FCS) – a wholly-owned subsidiary of Fraport AG – also remains dedicated to its responsibility for employees and the environment. Thus, FCS has been successively investing in the latest LED (Light Emitting Diode) technology for its huge cargo terminal at Frankfurt Airport (FRA). Completed in late September 2014, the migration to LED lighting involved replacing 437 lamps with the LED lighting.

Early results of the LED replacement program proved to be very satisfying. Retrofitting the first half of the FCS cargo terminal achieved noticeable improvements in lighting and working conditions, due to the characteristics of LED light – which is almost monochrome and does not radiate any heat such as in the form of ultraviolet (UV) or infrared (IR) rays. Furthermore, there is no trade-off in terms of reduced illuminating power. After measuring brightness levels on the floor in the FCS cargo hall, it became crystal clear that the minimum requirements under German law had been more than exceeded.

Based on red, green and blue color components, the light spectrum of LED lights is similar to sunlight. This makes working conditions more conducive for FCS staff and enhances the ability to concentrate on the task at hand – an added benefit for work safety.

The use of LED lighting not only results in improvements for employees but also for environmental protection. LED lights are calculated to have an energy efficiency of 65 percent. Thus, FCS’s entire LED investment can be amortized within three years, thanks to the energy savings and reduced maintenance costs.
