UB40 takes to the water for once-off gig to open Seychelles’ newest hotel Eden Bleu Hotel situated on Eden Island

UB40 takes to the water for once-off gig to open Seychelles’ newest hotel Eden Bleu Hotel situated on Eden Island ( UB40 thrilled local Seychellois, VIP guests, celebrities, and international media at a once-off gig for the grand opening of Seychelles’ newest hotel.

Performing from a floating stage, moored on Eden Island’s international marina, the Brit pop reggae band wowed the 500 invited guests at the hotel and a further 500 fans gathered in the public area for the opening of the Eden Bleu Hotel with a playlist of their greatest hits including Kingston Town and Red, Red Wine.

Multi-talented South African modern folk sensation, Jeremy Loops, opened with DJ Aubrey and some local artists adding a Seychelles flavor to the program.

Vice President of the Republic of Seychelles, Mr. Danny Faure, officially opened the hotel at an auspicious ribbon-cutting ceremony before the show started. The Seychelles National choir sang a repertoire of songs as guests arrived and after the ribbon-cutting and blessings were concluded.

The audience was comprised of many VIP guests and a large contingent of international media and representatives of the travel industry who flew in for the event. Among the fans attending the event in the public area were some 300 winners of free tickets made available through media and other outlets in Seychelles before the event.

This is only the second time that UB40 has performed in Seychelles. They previously played on the islands 24 years ago.

The Eden Bleu Hotel is one of the final features of Eden Island, a residential and commercial development situated 100 meters off the coast of Mahé. It is close to both the international airport and the capital, Victoria.

The Eden Bleu Hotel combines the best of a boutique resort and city center hotel and is equally suited as a business and leisure hotel.

It makes the most of its setting on Eden Island’s international marina, with its Marlin Bleu Restaurant and Bourgeois Bar looking out over a sundeck running along the entire front of the building and offering views across the water to the mountains.

The 87-room hotel boasts some exceptional digital technology wirelessly accessible via fast broadband connections. This includes in-room Apple TV and a digital concierge that can be accessed through the television, a smartphone, or other mobile device.

The conference center, which can seat up to 340 delegates or accommodate 250 guests at a banquet, features three high-definition LED screens, one of which is nearly six meters wide, making it the largest in Africa. The benefit of this technology is that it’s not light-sensitive so people don’t have to sit in the dark during presentations or AV shows. It also enables event organizers to make the most of the natural light and the magnificent views.

“The Eden Bleu Hotel is different in that it complements, rather than competes with, the existing hospitality offerings in Seychelles,” says Eden Island Executive Chairman Craig Heeger.

Present at this opening ceremony were Alain St.Ange, the Seychelles Minister responsible for Tourism and Culture; the Designated Minister Vincent Meriton; Minister Joel Morgan; Minister Mondon; Minister Alexander; Minister Adam; Minister Larue; and Minister Lionnet. The Tourism Minister congratulated Craig Heeger and the promoters of the Eden Bleu Hotel for adding another great product to the Seychelles hotel network.
