Rita Morel of Praslin has made her selection and decided on a sentimental piece to be exhibited as part of the National Arts Collection of Seychelles ( The young artist from the island of Praslin who runs her own gallery, “Rita's Arts Studio&Gallery," at Anse Volbert of Praslin last week presented Alain St.Ange, the Seychelles Minister responsible for Tourism and Culture, with one of her original pieces which will now be included in the National Arts Collection of Seychelles.

Rita Morel was responding to the appeal Minister St.Ange made as he opened the Arts Exhibition at the Berjaya Praslin Beach Hotel which was part of activities marking the very successful and hugely popular Praslin Culinary&Art Fiesta in early September. It was during this address that Minister St.Ange announced the opening of an Arts Gallery during the 2014 Edition of Kreol Festival in October. The Minister who is responsible for Culture also said that the country's National Arts Collection would now have its own gallery for all to see and that the pieces on exhibit as part of the National Collection would feature in a limited edition coffee table book on arts and artists of Seychelles.

Raymond Du Buisson also of Praslin was the first to answer the call made by the Minister and offered a painting for the National Collection. Rita Morel is now the second artist from Praslin to come forward to secure their place with a painting forming part of the National Collection and a place in the Seychelles book about arts and artists of the islands.

Rita Morel is a full-time artist of Praslin. She joined the National College of the Arts in 2004 - 2006 where she received a Higher Certificate in Art. While doing her final years, Rita Morel sat her A-Level Art Exhibition (GCE) of Cambridge and managed to obtain a distinction. At the end of her studies, Rita Morel was voted the outstanding performer for the visual arts program area of Seychelles Polytechnic.

Rita Morel makes a lot of observational studies of fauna and flora using a variety of media and techniques, but acrylic remains her favorite.

Today, Rita Morel exhibits her art works in several galleries including her own gallery “Rita's Arts Studio&Gallery" situated at Anse Volbert at Praslin. She is a member of the ORO ART Seychelles and is registered with the National Arts Council of Seychelles.

Minister St.Ange thanked Rita Morel for her painting especially as this particular piece she explained was one that she never wanted to sell. “As part of the National Collection, I shall always be able to see it," she said.
