Mancham of Seychelles launches his latest book "Seychelles, The Saga of a Small Nation Navigating the Cross-Currents of a Big World" (Forimmediaterelease.net) In the presence of Seychelles President James Michel and Vice President Danny Faure, Mrs. Kate Mancham, members of the judiciary, cabinet ministers, ambassadors, leader of the opposition, and members of the National Assembly, among many of the islands dignitaries, Sir James R.M. Mancham, the Founding President of the Seychelles, launched his latest book, “Seychelles, The Saga of a Small Nation Navigating the Cross-Currents of a Big World."

The 450-page book was launched by Minister Vincent Meriton, the Seychelles Designated Minister at ESPACE Building. The book launch coincided with the 75th birthday of Sir James. Minister Meriton said as he launched the book: “it was timely as it addressed many of the pressing issues of the day as our small island nation continues to find its way amid the maelstrom of an ever-changing world." Minister Meriton went on to say that the book by Sir James depicts the challenges that a nation like Seychelles inevitably faces in this era of globalization with the optimism and belief that the author has for his country.

Minister Vincent Meriton highlighted that the book is a reminder of the difficult decisions that the Seychellois nation has faced - from the cold war world into which Independent Seychelles emerged in 1976, to our contemporary globalized world where civil conflicts challenge the ability of the United Nations to be the force for peace that we all wish it could be. The Minister said that “the book by Sir James is a reminder of the power of ideas and that one does not need to be big to have good ideas. Through this boot, Sir James also reminds us of the power of unity," the Minister said.

Other speakers at the book launch included lawyers Daniel Belle and Nichol Gabriel, both former political companions of Sir James Mancham and Archbishop Emeritus of the Anglican Church French Chang Him, a school friend of Sir James.

When he addressed the large crowd present at the launch of his latest book, Sir James Mancham spoke of the need for unity as he retraced the history of the Seychelles from the era he called 'the good old days.'

Sir James has published many books starting with 'Reflections and Echoes from Seychelles' in the early 1970s, 'Paradise Raped' after the 1977 Coup D'Etat which sent him into exile in the UK and 'Adage of an Exile and Peace of Mind' as he lived his life in exile. After his return to Seychelles in the early 1990s, Sir James Mancham published 'War on America seen from the Indian Ocean' and five years ago 'Seychelles Global Citizen.’

The latest book by Sir James R.M. Mancham congratulates the work by many who today surrounds the island's President Michel. Alain St.Ange, the current Minister of Tourism and Culture, is one who receives praise by Sir James.

When he autographed a personalized copy of his latest book for Alain St.Ange, the Seychelles Minister responsible for Tourism and Culture, Sir James Mancham wrote: “To Alain, with fond regards and appreciation of your excellent work as SEYCHELLES MISTER TOURISM, James."
