Hotel Rivijera commits to sustainability for new wellness resort in Montenegro
Rivijera Crystal will offer 230 guest rooms with a Medical and Beauty Center and a Wellness&Fitness Spa as well as seminar and conference rooms. The hotel plans to create over 150 new job opportunities with approximately 60% reserved for female employees. Also, a new hotel school specializing in tourism and hospitality courses for young people will be opened.
Brad Cox, Green Globe Director of Communications, said, “Hotel Rivijera’s new resort exemplifies the development directions of Montenegro which promotes a greener and inclusive economy with focus on the local community and heritage. We congratulate the hotel chain on its expansion with their new Rivijera Crystal and, in the near future, look forward to welcoming this wellness resort into the Green Globe family of certified properties.”
Hotel Rivijera remains the only Green Globe certified hotel in Montenegro. Green Globe originally certified the hotel in 2012 in recognition of its support of sustainable development and environmental protection. Hotel Rivijera continues to set the highest standards regarding environmental and social responsibility that makes it a model for other businesses in the tourism sector and other industries.
Located directly on the beach and on the edge of Petrovac, Hotel Rivijera has two buildings with 49 double rooms and 42 apartments with a total of 231 beds. The park like grounds cover approximately 15,000 square meters and features pines, palms, cypresses, olive trees, abundant spacious green areas, a large landscaped swimming pool with Jacuzzi, tennis and basketball courts and a playground for children.
Montenegro has abundant water resources and two separate wells supply the entire water requirements of the hotel. However, the garden area is watered by 6 o’clock each morning to conserve water and also to ensure guests are not disturbed. And as part of its sustainability objectives a photovoltaic system produces electricity to reduce overall energy consumption.
Guests from Germany, the UK, Serbia and Russia are educated about environmentally responsible behavior through signage in the elevators and public areas and information is also provided in guest rooms. The hotel’s experienced Green Team, regularly organize beach clean ups to foster guest participation in eco-friendly programs.
As part of its social contribution to the local economy the hotel shop supports the sale of products from nearby monasteries. And, in the hotel’s smaller restaurant Oliva and in the main restaurant Amfora, produce is sourced exclusively from local farmers and suppliers to highlight the unique flavors of the surrounding areas of the Mediterranean, the sea and the mountains.
Hotel Rivijera has received numerous international awards from the tourist, hotel and catering industries including the award for Best Family Hotel, the Grand Gold Medal for the quality of gastronomic cuisine in Montenegro, and the BIZZ award for Business Excellence of World Confederation of Business (WORLDCOB) in Dubai.
