France team athletes round up 11 medals at the European Championships after a workout on Reunion Island ( French athletes beat a true record at the European Athletics Championships 2014, which were held in Zurich, Switzerland, by making the best record in program history at the European level. Of these 23 athletes rewarded, 11 of them had come to prepare at Reunion Island 4 months before the international athletics meeting that took place in April.

Each year for four years, Saint-Denis hosts this sporting event that brings together more than 100 international athletes. This competition is in this case carried by Daniel Sangouma, bronze medalist at the Seoul Olympics in 1988 and Honorary Ambassador of Reunion Island.

Reunion Island is an exceptional playground for athletes. True to land sports, Reunion Island is also a land of champions from different sports, such as handball, parasailing, water skiing, beach tennis, rugby, martial arts, and contact sports.

The European Athletics Championships 2014 medalists are:

- Pole vault: R. and K. Lavillenie Menaldo
- Heptathlon: A. Nana Djimou
- Relay 4 x 400 m: M. Gayot
- 100 m hurdles: C. Billaud
- Hard: Robert-Michon
- 100 m - 200 m - 4 x 100 m: Mr. Soumare
- Decathlon: K. Meyer
- 110 m hurdles: P. Martinot-Lagarde

Reunion Island is annually the grand theater of several large mountain races. The most prestigious are the Grand Raid, which connects more than 10,000 meters of ascent and five peaks at 2,000 meters.
