Seychelles Tourism Minister satisfied with first phase of new tourism academy project

Seychelles Tourism Minister satisfied with first phase of new tourism academy project ( Alain St.Ange, the Seychelles Minister responsible for Tourism and Culture, along with a strong delegation from his ministry, the Tourism Board of the country, and other key authorities of the islands visited the new Seychelles Tourism Academy this week to view the completion of the first phase of the construction project.

Showing the delegation around were the academy’s principal Flavien Joubert, accompanied by other members of staff.

In this first phase, two blocks have already been completed, with one catering for management students. This block has three classrooms, a computer room, and a library.

The first phase of the project consists of the main classroom block, management block and library, language laboratory, and security guard house.

It is expected to welcome the new group of management students by this September.

The second block of 15 classrooms will be for students following diploma courses, and each classroom will cater to around 30 students. The complex's public restaurant, kitchen, and bar will be handed over by mid-October of this year.

“We are happy that today we have this phase even though we are seven months late,” Minister St.Ange said.

“We have a few bits of ground work to do which will be done now, and also to clean the lower car park area and for the Seychelles Land and Transport Agency to come in to put the bitumen that has all been duly paid for,” Minster St.Ange added.

The only delay now is the kitchen where students will be able to work in it and also serve guests accordingly and will be ready by mid-October. All that is needed now is for the equipment to be installed.

“All the equipment for the kitchen and restaurant have already arrived in the country, and we hope that in 10 days’ time we can have it cleared and removed from the port area so that they can be put in place as we are hoping that the kitchen is completed by mid-October,” Minister St.Ange said.

The second phase of the project which consists of the management and administration block is expected to be ready this December.

“After the second phase is completed, we will then decide how we will take on the third phase which is the hotel side of this project,” Minister St.Ange explained.

“We have always said it is important to have a tourism academy that does justice to the industry which we consider as the pillar of the country's economy,” said Minister St.Ange.

“It is an important day for Seychelles as we are taking over the first phase of the Tourism Academy project which the Ministry of Tourism and Culture has worked closely with the Ministry of Finance, Trade and Investment to give this academy to Seychelles,” the Minister added.
