Marie-Eve and Mathilde Hoarau of Reunion Island finalists in Italian tournament (Forimmediaterelease.net) Marie-Eve and Hoarau Mathilde began their international season with the international beach tennis tournament grade 1 (G1) in Riccione, Italy on July 15. Champions of Reunion Island beach tennis, they rose to the final, where they had to bow to an Italian pair. With this result, the Honorary Ambassadors of Reunion Island became the first players of a “non-Italian" nationality to reach the final of a G1 tournament in Italy!

After removing a Japanese team in the first round, the Reunion Island pair faced a Hungarian-Italian pair in a second game. This second victory for the Hoarau sisters allowed them to reach the quarter-finals, during which time they met a pair of high-level Italians. After 2:40 of the game and after saving two match points, Marie-Eve and Mathilde Hoarau won their third set to win the game. In the semifinals, the Reunion Island duo again faced a very well-ranked Italian pair. The meeting ended in three sets to win for Marie-Eve and Mathilde Hoarau. In the finals, the Reunion Island sisters lost to a last pair of Italian players who were victorious for the game and the international tournament.

Nevertheless, these Reunion Island ambassador “lived a beautiful tournament; it was a great experience… a lot of emotions, a lot of joy, a lot of meetings, a lot of intensity, a lot of fun.” Even though this Reunion Island pair did not win the tournament, they became the first players of non-Italian nationality to climb to the final of a G1 competition in Italy. A result that Marie-Eve and Mathilde Hoarau, respectively classified No. 10 and No. 3 worldwide, are very proud of.

Next step: world championship team in Moscow, Russia, July 17 to 20, 2014. The Reunion Island pair has been selected to represent France with a dual objective: to defend the colors of their island and their country.
