Sumahan on the Water opened its Bosporus terrace at Tapasuma Restaurant for the summer months ( The renowned Tapasuma Restaurant at one of Istanbul’s best-loved luxury boutique hotels Sumahan on the Water, opened its stunning Bosporus terrace for the summer months, featuring a renewed menu according to summer’s fresh fruits and vegetables. Enjoy inspirational Turkish dishes with a contemporary twist, whilst gazing onto the Bosporus as it glitters and changes its hues throughout the day. Chef Gokay Cakiroglu, who has a passion for creating new dishes, presents a menu of lesser-known yet enticing dishes from modern Turkish and Mediterranean cuisines with freshly caught seasonal fish from the Bosporus. In line with its name, Tapasuma further offers a fine selection of delicious bite-sized Turkish “mezzes”, lined up tapas-style at the restaurant’s 8-metre long marble food&drinks bar. The name “Tapasuma” was chosen to reflect the award-winning Sumahan on the Water’s beginning as a 19th century Ottoman distillery. Tapa means cork, while Suma is the first distillation when producing Raki, Turkey’s traditional aniseed-flavoured spirit. Tapasuma is the ideal place for informal lunches and evening meals, as it is for special gatherings and celebrations. Tapasuma is an ultra-chic smart casual dining venue for watching the sun set over the fabled city of Istanbul. The hotel’s own boat Sumahan I will even bring guests from across the Bosporus directly to the restaurant in the quaint and attractive village of Cengelkoy on the Asian shore.

Sumahan on the Water is a rare Bosporus-front property that has remained in the hands of the original family and its Turkish-American owner-architects Nedret and Mark Butler have transformed the former Ottoman distillery into a very special retreat for visitors to Istanbul. Sumahan on the Water offers 24 rooms and suites, with each having its own concept and design, while all offering the ever-changing seascape of fishermen, ferryboats and ships gliding through the night. Its location on the Istanbul’s Asian side makes Sumahan on the Water a perfect haven to escape the hassle and bustle of the inner city. Relax not only at the terrace of Tapasuma Restaurant, but also at the Sumahan Wellness Center and indulge in traditional Turkish beauty rituals like the Hammam. In essence the Sumahan on the Water experience is about modern comfort in a historic as well as sensational setting with friendly personal service.
