Reunion Island celebrates World Oceans Day

Reunion Island celebrates World Oceans Day ( World Oceans Day, celebrated every June 8 since 2009, aims to raise awareness about better management of oceans and their resources. On Reunion Island, the Indian Ocean will be honored from this Friday, June 6, until Sunday, June 8, 2014.

Celebrated around the world, World Oceans Day follows the vote of the UN General Assembly and is a day that offers the opportunity to inform the general public about issues related to the protection of the oceans, and to also stimulate the desire to adopt sustainable behavior and to provide individual and collective courses of action for improved management of marine resources. Happenings take place simultaneously around the world through fun activities and concrete actions.

For this new edition of World Oceans Day, Reunion Island, a real hot spot of marine biodiversity, invites people on a journey to discover its underwater ocean life. On Reunion Island, World Ocean Day invites people to the beach of Petit Boucan, where from this Friday, June 6, 2014, CCSTI Sciences (Culture Centre Scientific and Industrial Technology) is organizing a free evening in Cape Lobster from 7:00 pm to 11:00 pm. In order to raise public awareness about the marine environment, a screening of the World Festival of Underwater Pictures will take place on Cape Lobster on the beach of Petit Boucan. In this fifth edition, a photo exhibition and musical performance will be on the program. Bernard Bee, musician (singing whales), and Remi Attuyt, director of the World Festival of Underwater Pictures of Marseille, will be guests at the event. More information is available at
