Seychelles Tourism stands behind their beauty queen as she prepares for the Miss World Pageant in the UK

Seychelles Tourism stands behind their beauty queen as she prepares for the Miss World Pageant in the UK ( For the last three years, the responsibility for organizing the “Miss Seychelles… Another World” beauty pageant has been given to the Seychelles Tourism Board. This decision was taken as the government moved to give the island`s culture an important place in the marketing of the islands.

“The culture of a nation lives in the heart and in the soul of its people," said Alain St.Ange, the Seychelles Minister responsible for Tourism and Culture, as he quoted Mr. Mahatma Gandhi when he officially opened the beauty pageant 2014. Sherin Naiken, the CEO of the Seychelles Tourism Board, addressed those gathered for the island`s beauty pageant evening saying: “It gives me great pleasure to see you all here enjoying the 2014 `Miss Seychelles… Another World` beauty pageant against this wonderful backdrop of our newly-opened Savoy Resort and spa right across one our most popular beaches in the Seychelles, the Beau Vallon Beach. I thank the Savoy Resort for coming forward to work with the Events Department of the Tourism Board. We really appreciate that you are hosting us in your breathtaking resort. Hosting an Event that appears on a calendar of events will bring you coverage and ensure you remain visible and relevant as one of our prime hotels in Seychelles.

“Against this beautiful backdrop, we will be applauding our twelve beautiful cosmopolitan ladies which illustrates one of the best five of the `Seychelles Brand,` that is our diverse cosmopolitan nation. Our people differentiate us from other competing destinations; for this exact reason we should never cease to showcase how diverse we are. We must never forget that in this intensely competitive world of tourism, every little bit helps, and it is often not one big thing, but rather many small things that can make a difference.

“The pageant has also moved on from just being the early days of beauty contests, because today it is not just about beauty for beauty`s sake, but rather beauty with a purpose. To all the girls who truly tried to celebrate this theme, consider yourself a winner already as you are destined for bigger and better things. This pageant is but a jumping platform for you. Be proud always that you are a Seychellois, one of 86 thousand blessed to be a Seychellois.

“For our beauty queen tonight, get ready for a year of adventure as you will be representing various causes both in the local community and also internationally. You will be joining the Tourism Board at tourism trade fairs and other events to help promote Seychelles` interests on the international stage. The lucky winner of tonight`s contest will also go on to represent Seychelles at the upcoming Miss World beauty contest in the UK. Being a beauty queen in today`s world is a job. My message to who[m]ever gets crowned tonight is to seize with both hands the great personal learning opportunity which will come your way. In a year, where our national theme is centered around good living values, you will be expected to champion the cause, and for this I would also encourage all the contestants to be role models for our youth, offering shining examples of ethical behavior and good conduct for all to see and admire.

“To our 12 beautiful ladies, I salute you all. You have dared to follow your dream and do something many of us ladies have dreamt off but yet never had enough courage to walk up this catwalk. You did not try to take the path of least resistance. When the preparation got tough and intense, quitting was never an option. Today, for you, May marks the end of a chapter in your life. But the end of one thing is only the beginning of something new. `If you ever have the chance to sit it out or dance. I hope you choose to dance!` is a beautiful quote from Leanne Womack and a beautiful message to go home with. In other words, keep the faith in what you have been taught and never cease to strive to reach your full potential.

“Last but very important, I would like to share my words of appreciation to all of our sponsors, partners, and collaborators. I would like to make special mention to our gold sponsors being Airtel, Air Seychelles/Etihad, and Jouel. To our team of organizers – thank you to my events staff at the Tourism Board who have had to give up time they should have been spending with family and loved ones, to walk our contestants through the 3 months of preparation. To Jimmy Savy, CEO of National Arts Council, for being more than just an artistic director; to our choreographer Joel Rose; and to our groomer Joelle Fabre who went out of her way to make sure that our contestants walked with confidence and grace not just tonight but for the rest of their lives. I would also like to extend support to our parent ministry and our minister, Minister Alain St.Ange, for his continuous support and guidance. It would be remiss of me not to mention all the press and media partners who did the `Miss Seychelles… Another World` 2014 journey with us, and SBC which has accepted to bring this event live to our viewers at home.

“To the parents, who despite being uneasy with having your princess, your little girl, be in a beauty pageant, I may not have had the chance to say it to each and every one of you, but I can reassure you that you did the best thing you could have done for them by supporting them and being there for them throughout the 3 months. And my final and heartfelt thanks goes to all of you who have come here this evening to support this event. I hope you have a wonderful evening."

Camilla Estico was selected “Miss Seychelles… Another World” 2014 during the island`s beauty pageant that was held last Saturday night at the new Savoy Resort&Spa at Beau Vallon on the island of Mahe. It was Agnes Gerry, the outgoing beauty queen of the Seychelles who presented 23-year-old Camilla Estico with her crown. Camilla Estico, the 2014 Miss Seychelles is also Miss Talent and Miss Photogenic. The prize for First Princess went to contestant number 9, Lisa Rose. The Second Princess is contestant number 5, Marvel Godley. Twelve young girls were contesting for the Miss Seychelles title. Seven were chosen as finalists before the judges decided on the winner. Several other prizes were also presented among which was the People`s Choice Award, won by contestant number 12, Ronda Sidonie.

Minister St.Ange congratulated all the contestants and said that they were real ambassadors of the country and said that participating is winning and that they should be proud to have had the determination and courage to come forward to be seen and to be counted.
