Seychelles Tourism Minister congratulates South Africa for Ministerial Session during Tourism Indaba

Seychelles Tourism Minister congratulates South Africa for Ministerial Session during Tourism Indaba ( Minister Alain St.Ange, the Seychelles Minister responsible for Tourism and Culture, has said that South Africa needed to be congratulated for bringing tourism ministers from Africa for an annual Ministerial Session.

Last week, Minister Marthinus Van Schalkwyk, the Minister of Tourism of South Africa, invited Ministers attending the 2014 Tourism Indaba Trade Fair in Durban to the inaugural Ministerial Session that will now be held annually to coincide with Indaba.

The Indaba Tourism Trade Fair of Durban in South Africa remains the biggest travel trade show in Africa and it has been in existence since 1984. Indaba had been the tourism trade fair for only SADC (Southern African Development Community) Member States but this has now changed to become the tourism trade fair for the African continent, making it the Pan African travel and trade platform.

Minister St.Ange of the Seychelles said that the inaugural Ministerial Session which was chaired by Minister Van Schalkwyk of South Africa and attended by AU (African Union) Commissioner Mrs. Dlamini Zuma attracted a large number of tourism ministers from Africa, including Pascal Viroleau, the CEO of the Vanilla Islands of the Indian Ocean, who was in South Africa for the annual Indaba tourism fair.

“We all know that Africa needs to work with Africa if our tourism industry is to be consolidated. This is why the theme chosen for the inaugural Ministerial Session Africa - Ready for Business - was so appropriate. This is also why the open discussions by the Ministers of Tourism present was so rich and interesting," the Minister of Tourism and Culture from the Seychelles said.

“We need to congratulate Minister Marthinus Van Schalkwyk of South Africa for staging this event. We need such opportunities to interact, and it was an added bonus to have had the African Union Commissioner present as well. We all discussed our challenges as we saw it, and we were all able to place it in the context of our continent. This was also the opportunity for the CEO of our Vanilla islands to put the views of the Indian Ocean Islands forward," Minister Alain St.Ange of the Seychelles said.

Tourism Ministers from Africa present all said they were there because they believed in South Africa as a target market and wanted to see Africa pursue joint strategies for the consolidation of the continent`s tourism industry.
