The future begins today at Movenpick Hotel Zurich-Airport
“It is our goal to strive for perfection, and we are deeply committed to live the Green Globe principles on a daily basis,” said Sandy Decker, Environmental Officer at the hotel. “Our recent re-certification, with a score of 97% against the Green Globe criteria, cements our commitment to continually refine the level of understanding of sustainability, and periodically take time to implement improvements wherever possible.”
A wide range of green initiatives, such as waste reduction and recycling, increasing energy efficiency, environmental education, and community outreach, have been integrated at Movenpick Hotel Zurich-Airport. The hotel currently participates in a pilot project, testing paperless guest check-in/out. Guests are encouraged to reduce their carbon footprint and preserving water resources. The info touch screen, located in the lobby, provides information on the hotel`s sustainability policy.
“We have to realize that even the small things, easy to do for everyone, bring us closer to a sustainable society. We all have to learn to carefully use our resources and not to waste them,” adds Sandy Decker.
Considerable efforts have been made to educate staff and reach out into the wider community, creating a property clearly dedicated to both personal responsibility and informing, empowering and improving its surrounding environment.
Movenpick Hotels&Resorts uses the framework for Strategic Sustainable Development, a proven science based model helping businesses to better understand and integrate sustainability in its strategy and operations. The framework was initiated by the Swedish born international NGO, The Natural Step (www.thenaturalstep.org). The framework contains logical guidelines to identify current challenges, future possibilities and smart-step-wise approaches to move towards sustainability and to capitalize on a more distinguished way of sustainability driven markets.
The Movenpick Hotel Zurich-Airport is actively involved with the Climate Cent Foundation, a voluntary measure of the Swiss industry aimed at efficient climate protection. The foundation invests in projects designed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, both in Switzerland and abroad. Emissions reductions are determined following nationally and internationally recognized guidelines, and can be claimed by Switzerland towards the fulfillment of its reduction target.
