Located only 28 kilometres north-west of Lyon, Château de Bagnols is one of France’s most important historic monuments, built between 1217 and 1222 by Guichard d’Oingt. In 1820, the castle became a vineyard and, at this point, a winery was added and a panoramic viewpoint created overlooking the vines. At the beginning of the 20th century the castle fell into disrepair and it was not until 1987 that it was returned to its former glory by Lady Hamlyn. Today, Château de Bagnols sparkles with 27 suites, including six completely new rooms, located in the former 19th century cellar, named “Cuvage” building. All rooms are comfortably spacious and each one has its own unique history, bearing names of those who have contributed to the castles distinguished past. A majestic glass roof, fitted over the Renaissance courtyard now ensures an all-weather-use of this beautiful center of the castle. The courtyard offers not only recreational space, but also the perfect setting for dinner and very exclusive events.

Not only famous for its historic past, but also for its culinary delights and its vineyards, Château de Bagnols is very proud to introduce the newly appointed head chef Jean-Alexandre Ouaratta, who comes directly from the Royal Mansour Hotel in Marrakech. He has cooked with some of the most prestigious chefs, such as Paul Boscuse and Yannick Alleno in the past and acquired his precious “savoir-faire” while working in Michelin starred restaurants. Jean-Alexandre Ouaratta has just been awarded with 3 Michelin Forks, on his way to his first Michelin Star. As of summer 2014, guests will also enjoy the delight of the new Spa at Château de Bagnols with an indoor swimming pool, a fitness room and various treatment rooms.

Château de Bagnols is one of the finest castle hotels in France and member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World. Dating from the 13th century, the castle features impressive towers, an original dry moat, honey-coloured stone, known as pierres doreées and a dramatic entrance across a drawbridge. A heaven of tranquility and elegance, Château de Bagnols is equipped with every comfort. The service is second-to-none and the suites are both comfortable and spacious. The abundance of historic objects d’art, antiques and original paintings throughout the castle is breathtaking. With a large circular outdoor pool, beautiful French gardens and a restaurant serving gourmet cuisine, this place is the quintessential of France.
