Saga du Rhum museum on Reunion Island participates in Tourism & Disability National Days

Saga du Rhum museum on Reunion Island participates in Tourism & Disability National Days ( The Saga du Rum museum won the Regional Trophy for Tourism&Disability National Days in the category of large structures, on the occasion of the Accessibility Awards 2014 held earlier this year. The museum is now in contention for the national trophy, the results of which will be announced on May 6, with participation on April 5 and 6, 2014 in the 8th edition of Tourism&Disability National Days.

Nearly 219 French tourism professionals will open their doors this Saturday and Sunday as part of the Tourism&Disability National Days. The event is an opportunity to highlight developments and actions made for the reception of persons with disabilities, who represent 10% of the population.

Conducted in partnership with the Ministry of Crafts, Trade and Tourism; the Ministry of Culture and Communication; the National Agency for Holiday Vouchers (ANCV ); and the National Network of Departmental Destination ( RN2D ); the Tourism&National Days Handicaps allow people with disabilities, and their families and friends, to discover places of vacation and recreation accessible to all.

The aim of the workshop is to present and to identify more precisely the infrastructure that can accommodate people according to their disability (hearing, mental, motor, and visual): hotels, museums, restaurants, leisure centers, tourist offices, castles, botanical gardens, educational farms, and more.

For two days, the Saga du Rhum museum will open its doors to people with disabilities.

Program for Saga du Rhum on Saturday and Sunday, April 5&6, 2014:

• Free admission to the museum for the disabled person; price reduced for his/her companions

• Visit with French Sign Language (LSF) on booking with the help of the association

• Multi-sensory tours to suit all on the weekend

Since 2012, the Saga du Rhum has received the Tourism and Handicap label. The museum also has a trail that is accessible to people with reduced mobility. On site, magnetic loops are made available for the hearing impaired. The deaf can also enjoy a visit to the museum with French Sign Language as an option.

The Tourism&Disability label was created at the initiative of the State Secretariat of Tourism in May 2001. It provides the guarantee of a suitable home and meets the demands of people with disabilities who want to choose their holiday, grow, have fun, go alone, go with family or friends, or go wherever they choose, as everyone else does. Today, more than 5,300 sites and accommodations have earned the Tourism&Disability label.
