Centara Grand Beach Resort & Villas Hua Hin wins ASEAN Green Hotel Award 2014
The bi-annual award was presented by the ministers of tourism on the ASEAN Tourism Forum (ATF) 2014 on 19 January 2014 at Kuching, Malaysia.
This award goes to hotels that meet the required standards and establishes a professional green hotel operation with an environmental plan, including green products, human resource development and environment management.
“Environmental protection and conservation are at the heart of everything we do, right across our entire portfolio, as sustainable development is an integral part of our policy,” says Thirayuth Chirathivat, chief executive officer of Centara Hotels&Resorts.
“We are delighted this lovely old resort hotel, which has such a distinguished history dating back to the 1920s, has been recognized in the ASEAN Green Hotel Awards. The management and the entire team are heartily congratulated on their achievement.”
Jacques Mury, general manager of Centara Grand Beach Resort&Villas Hua Hin, says that the resort`s environmental policies and campaigns involve every staff member and also, whenever possible, the resort`s guests.
“It is an honor that our property has been recognized as one of the ASEAN Green Hotels, another fruit of the efforts from our Green Committee and all our staff,” he says.
“We will continue our intention to be one of the leaders of sustainable development, as recognized by more than 20 environmental awards we have received since 1988.”
Amongst the recent environmental awards are the Environmental Assessment Award, SHE (Safety, Hygiene and Environment) Award, Environment Friendly Hotel, Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Motoring Award, Green Accommodations – Gold Class Award, Thailand Energy Award, and Silver Certification from EarthCheck.
Mr. Mury says that amongst the resort`s environmental programs are the production of hot water supply using solar cells, installing low-energy 23 watt lamps, serving glass-bottled drinking water in the guest rooms, hanging towel conservation signs, and using waste water for gardening.
Originally built as the Railway Hotel in 1923, and long recognized as one of the classic hotels of the East, Centara Grand Beach Resort&Villas Hua Hin has recently undergone a sensitive restoration that has ensured the property has fully retained its old-world charm.
The resort hotel stands in 16 hectares of beachfront land amongst topiary gardens that are a famous local landmark, with guests having direct access to the beach and to the shopping and entertainment outlets of Hua Hin town.
The 207 rooms and suites evoke the style of a more leisurely era while the 42 villas set in the grounds offer the option of an outdoor Jacuzzi or private plunge pool.
